Have you ever sat back and thought, maybe I am a pathological people pleaser and that Taylor Swift song had a point. Maybe you’re a “first gen” Latin-American trying to break the cycle yet battling generational trauma. Hi, I’m Josefina Sierra, and thank you for taking the time to explore therapy with me! I’m a bilingual Spanish speaking Licensed Professional Counselor with over 5 years of experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual trauma, PTSD, cultural-identity based trauma, and childhood adversity.
I utilize a collaborative and compassionate style as I appreciate the courage it takes to even come to therapy. There’s no one size fits all approach to therapy – each of you will have your own unique journey. Together, we’ll tailor treatment to identify the coping skills that are right for you, your partner, your teen, and your family. My therapy work has spanned various settings throughout the years, such as non-profit agencies, correctional facilities, battering intervention & prevention programs (BIPP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP), to name a few.
In addition to various forms of trauma, the people I serve often come in to process self-esteem, identity exploration, relationship concerns, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and grief/loss. I value the feedback I receive from those I serve and believe my greatest strength as a clinician is my ability to help people feel comfortable opening up so they can live fulfilling, authentic lives.
Approaches:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Person-Centered Therapy
Trauma-Focused Therapy
In my free time, I foster cats/kittens and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) cats in my local community. I care deeply about animal welfare and the mental health of those that work with animals as it’s a very tough job. I also enjoy thrifting, exercising/yoga, and decompressing with reality TV!
